The name of this Chenin Blanc pays homage to Louis Albert Péringuey, a 19th-century Western Cape vineyard inspector who led the fight against phylloxera and oversaw the importation of American rootstocks.

On the nose, French oak adds style and class to this magical grape. Mouth deliciously full with white pear, quince and green pineapple meeting with spicy complexity.

Pairings: Lean fish, lightly spiced foods and mild, soft cheeses.

Alcohol content: 13.5% volume

Cap: Screw

Origin

Wine of Origin South Africa, Stellenbosch.

In the vineyard

The vineyards are located 220m above sea level and enjoy very favourable climatic conditions as they are reached by Atlantic breezes from False Bay and have double exposure to the east and south.
Soil: decomposed granite and loam.
Age of vines: 39 years.

In the cellar

After a soft pressing followed by cold decantation for 2 days, the must is fermented in 228 L second and third use barrels and in amphora. The wine is aged in barrels for 6 months with occasional rotation of the barrels.
To accentuate the fresh citrus flavour, 29% steel-fermented Chenin Blanc is added to the barrel-fermented portion.

Awards

Tim Atkin: 91;
James Suckling: 91;
