In 1971 with Kaapse Vonkel, Frans Malan-founder of the Simonsig wine estate-was the first producer of Méthode Cap Classique in South Africa.

In 2004, Simonsig winemaker Johan Malan created a real innovation by launching Kaapse Vonkel Brut Rosé with Pinot Noir and Pinotage.

Born from the meeting of Pinot Noir and Pinotage, Méthode Cap Classique Kaapse Vonkel Brut Rosé offers truly amazing sensations. With a lovely pale salmon color, this South African Classic Method has an elegant bubble with persistent froth. The nose offers hints of wild strawberries, wild flowers and sourdough bread. On the palate come aromas of fresh strawberries, raspberry sorbet and fragrant cookies.

Crisp acidity contributes to the freshness and pleasant persistence of this Méthode Cap Classique Rosé. With its delicate bubbles, this interesting Méthode Cap Classique is produced by the Malan family, South Africa's first producer of classic method.

Food pairings: Excellent on its own, it pairs perfectly with all seafood dishes, red fruit salads or any other light dessert.

Alcohol content: 12%.

Cap: cork

Origin

Wine of Origin South Africa, Stellenbosch.

In the vineyard

The Stellenbosch region had an excellent winter; consistently cold from the end of May to the end of August. While early spring was particularly cool and dry, the growing season became progressively wetter and cooler. Exceptional summer rainfall resulted in lush canopies. The cool, wet conditions were suddenly interrupted by heat waves in January.
However, all this has helped to create a great base for the 2022 vintage, with good sugar concentrations. A great Cap Classique vintage showing elegance and finesse.

In the cellar

All grapes were hand-picked. Whole bunches were gently pressed in pneumatic presses to collect the purest juice, called cuvée. The juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks, at around 14-16°C, with specially selected yeast strains to ensure excellent fruit and freshness.
The final composition of the rosé is determined by meticulous tastings before the different cuvées are expertly assembled, to obtain the most refined and fruity wine. Fermentation in the bottle creates millions of magical bubbles. It is then matured in Simonsig’s cool, dark cellars for at least 15 months, adding layers of complexity to the delicious red berry flavours.
When perfect harmony is achieved, disgorgement removes the yeasts and in the final stage a small amount of dosage is added to obtain a perfectly balanced brut rosé.
