Chenin Blanc - Simonsig Wine Estate

Varietal: Chenin Blanc 100%. Vegan wine.

Chenin Blanc at Simonsig was the first wine marketed by wine estate founder Frans Malan in 1968. Over the years, this white wine has become increasingly recognized, so much so that 55 consecutive vintages of Chenin Blanc at Simonsig were celebrated in 2023.

Simonsig's Chenin Blanc opens with intense aromas, revealing a lively bouquet of lemon zest, crisp green apple, and a hint of yellow peach, then seamlessly transitions to tropical notes of passion fruit and candied pineapple, adding a delightful sweetness to the mid-palate. Despite its lively acidity, the wine maintains a creamy texture that elegantly coats the mouth, offering a balanced and harmonious finish.
A South African white wine that is a true expression of Simonsig wine estate terroir.

Table pairings: ideal with citrus and beet salads, with goat cheese, shellfish, barbecued chicken. Excellent as an aperitif.

Serving temperature: 10° - 12°

Cap: screwcap | Alc 13,5% | RS 4 g/l | TA 6.4 g/l | pH 3.34.

Origin

Wine of Origin South Africa, Stellenbosch.

In the vineyard

The 2024 season will be remembered for many reasons. Excellent winter conditions were followed by a historic storm with strong winds and torrential rain at the start of the season. Subsequently, a prolonged period of heat and drought led to the poorest harvest in twenty years in the Cape wine region, due to small berries and reduced bunch weight.
The quality of the 2024 vintage will be memorable for many years to come.

In the cellar

The bunches are hand-picked and pressed; a part of the must remains to macerate on the skins for the whole night. The must is then inoculated with selected yeasts, chosen for the production of fruity wines. The fermentation temperature is kept between 12 °C and 14 °C, in order to ensure a slow process capable of producing the best fruit flavor.
