Pinotage is a native grape variety of South Africa, born in 1925 from a unique cross between Pinot Noir and Hermitage (or Cinsaut). The father of Pinotage was Abraham Izak Perold, a university professor and winemaker who sought the best resistance to the dry summers of the Western Cape region of South Africa.

Rare late release of Pinotage from Kanonkop.

A complex and fruity Pinotage. After some bottle aging, this Pinotage will begin to show some earthy and underbrush characteristics.

Table pairings: Pinotage perfect to go with red meats and, drunk now, with lamb.

Production: 75,000 bottles.

Expected evolution: Kanonkop's Pinotage gives its best within 15 years of bottling.

Alcohol content: 14.5%

In the vineyard

Vintage characterized by a cold and wet winter, with a few days with milder temperatures during harvest. 60-year-old vines.

In the cellar

Fermentation took place in steel tanks at 28°C. Tickling every 2 hours, and after 3 days the must was separated from the skins. This was followed by aging in 225-liter French oak barrels for 16 months: 75% new and 25% 2nd-use barrels.
