The term “Pick of the Bunch” refers to the best in its class. After years of working with this strong character grape, Pinotage, Simonsig has honed its winemaking skills to bring out the best in Pinotage and produce world-class wines.
Pinotage was first bottled at Simonsig in 1970 (and is also Simonsig's first red wine). This native South African variety thrives in their Stellenbosch terroir and is an integral part of its vineyards.
Simonsig's Pinotage shows a vibrant crimson red color.
Aromas of berries with subtle notes of licorice and sweet spices. Dark fruit nuances are complemented by spicy nuances of fynbos for a unique aromatic quality.
Hints of raspberry compote, black cherry and cranberry are on the palate. Slight acidity and soft, well-rounded tannins make this wine very pleasant and drinkable.
Table pairings: pasta, ostrich meat and game and, most importantly, it can perfectly accompany traditional South African braai.
Expected evolution: Pinotage from Simonsig is at its best within 5 years after bottling. Since Pinotage is a wine that prizes late consumption, you will not be disappointed in waiting to enjoy this Pinotage from Simonsig even beyond 5 years.
Alcohol content: 14%.
Cap: Cork
