Jungle Twins Chairs - Two Vintage Chairs
Jungle Twins Chairs - Two Vintage Chairs
Pair of restored vintage chairs with precious Ardmore fabrics.
The seating
The frame is an interesting mix of design solutions and stylistic reminiscences:
- the rear legs are a single piece machined on a lathe (cylindrical), but only retain the square cross-section in the area of greatest strength, at the junction with the seat;
- all joints are made with wooden dowels and glue, with the exception of the four kittens, which are reinforced with generous 12 mm head screws, and the curve in the backrest;
- the back support has the so-called ‘smoker's’ finish, rounded and flared upwards: it comes from a 19th-century English chair model that allowed people to smoke pipes in comfort (hence the name).
The fabrics
The fabrics are made by the South African studio Ardmore.
In the elegantly designed fabric scene, the cunning cheetah hunts among Lucky Bean trees, the beautiful coral trees of Africa. The latter are valuable plants for the ecosystem, providing food and shelter for a variety of birds, animals and insects. These trees are also buried on the graves of Zulu chiefs and are associated with magic in Zulu culture.
Both chairs are unique pieces.
