Matchbox x Mr Brainwash: Mini Cooper S – An Icon Between Art and Collectibles
Mr. Brainwash and the Magic of Matchbox
"Going to my grandmother's on Thursday afternoons was a fixed habit. I didn't have tennis lessons that day and she waited for me from week to week.
There were downsides to these visits: sometimes the cold (in Genoa in winter the wind from the North really hurt your face) and then the trolleybus, where I had to leave a seat for ladies or older people; being a child ... everyone was older than me, but my mother didn't want to hear arguments and so I stood from our stop, to the square at the terminus.
As soon as I arrived, a carefully prepared snack awaited me and, if the school week had gone well, a special surprise: a Matchbox car , a gift from my grandfather. These little cars in yellow boxes had just arrived in the shops, and on the waxed floor of the corridor they whizzed by at great speed.
On the way back, at the end of the afternoon, I hoped that there wouldn't be a trolleybus so I would have time to look in the tobacconist's window and see if there were any new cars. If I was lucky, I would show them to my mother... in the hope that she would tell my grandfather before my next "ten" in class ."
Matchbox Today: Not Just Toys, But Collectibles
"Today, as a grandfather, history repeats itself: new squares, new snacks, but the passion for Matchbox has remained intact. Only now they are not just toys, but real collectibles for display, embellished with exclusive collaborations.
And this is where Matchbox x Mr Brainwash comes in: Mini Cooper S , a special edition signed by the famous street artist Thierry Guetta, aka Mr. Brainwash. This fusion of contemporary art and collectible model making each piece a sought-after object by enthusiasts and collectors from all over the world.
Thanks Mr. Brainwash, you bring me back to the good old days!"
